About Me

I grew up in Ward 8 in a working class immigrant family. We lost our home in the Great Recession and moved all around the Mid-Hudson Valley, but I always dreamed of returning to this city. I came back to fight for a Poughkeepsie that works for all of us.

After graduating from public schools and SUNY, I dedicated my career to organizing working class people. In my role at the local grassroots nonprofit For the Many, I’ve helped organize community meetings and led successful local legislative campaigns to keep Poughkeepsie residents in their homes, stop Airbnbs from taking over our community, and secure a commitment from the city to replace lead water pipes. I also serve as Dutchess County Co-Chair of Mid-Hudson Valley DSA and have helped them organize coat drives and food pantries for Poughkeepsie residents. As a democratic socialist, I believe that government should do big things to help working class people, instead of giving out 99-year tax breaks to corporate developers.

I’ve walked every single street of Ward 8 to talk to my neighbors. I’ve attended almost every Council meeting for 3 years giving public comments on a variety of important issues impacting our city. I rallied with federal workers to save our Social Security office and protect our Post Office. I spoke out against Central Hudson trying to raise our energy bills. I’ve helped lead successful legislative campaigns on the state and local level. I’ve spent years building relationships with voters, unions, grassroots organizations, and elected officials. I know how to bring people together and get things done. I’d be ready to serve on day one.

Priority Issues

Housing

Poughkeepsie is facing a housing crisis. I’ll fight to expand the partial tax exemption for senior homeowners and expose slumlords with a public list of landlords who have the most violations.

Infrastructure

We deserve more than crumbling infrastructure. I’ll fight to repave our roads and replace lead water pipes.

Climate

As a city on the Hudson, we need to take climate change very seriously. I’ll fight to create a municipal composting program to reduce methane emissions and plant more trees to absorb carbon dioxide.

Transparency

We need to restore faith in government. I’ll host monthly ward meetings and fight for hybrid Council meetings so residents can participate online.

Public Safety

People deserve to feel safe in Poughkeepsie. I’ll fight for speed radar signs to slow speeding cars and to install more street lights to improve visibility.

Public Goods

We need to invest in public goods because Poughkeepsie belongs to all of us. I’ll fight to upgrade Spratt Park and fund a fare-free bus line.

District Map

District Map

Poughkeepsie Ward 8

I’m running to represent the same neighborhood I grew up in, Ward 8 in the southeast corner of the City of Poughkeepsie.

I’ve always loved that the Southside is a community where people know and care about their neighbors. But that is at-risk because rising rents and property taxes are pricing out longtime residents and a lead pipe health crisis is scaring people away.

We need a community champion who will fight for Ward 8 and all Poughkeepsie residents. That’s why I’m running for Common Council.
